Today is the 2017 Shrewsbury Carnival and Show, our team have been busy of the past few days putting the final touches to the day and we hope its going to be a another great event.
From 10am this morning we have a packed line-up of entertainment in Shrewsbury’s Quarry park:
10.00am – Arrival of Helicopter from RAF Shawbury
11.00am – Shropshire Ukulele Massive
11.30am – ROAM Dance – Emprise and Emerge
11.45am – Get Your Wigle On
12.00pm – Alisha Jayne Dance Academy
12.35pm – Curtain Call Theatre Company
12.50pm – Fiddlesticks
1.10pm – Desi Nach Bollywood Dancers
1.30pm – Viv Kelly Dance School
1.40pm – Henry Maybury and Matt Bell
2.00pm – Parade leaves The Quarry
3.00pm – Shropshire Fire and Rescue RTC Display
3.40pm – Presentation of Winners
4.00pm – The Retro Roses
*All timings are approximate and may alter by 10 – 15 minutes either way.
There is also a funfair and trade and charity stalls open 10am – 5pm.
At 2pm our main parade with over 30 floats and walking groups all having the theme ‘Carnival Goes Around the World’ will leave the Quarry park led by Town Crier – Martin Wood, Shrewsbury Carnival Royalty and the Mayor of Shrewsbury.
If you have any spare change we have plenty of collection buckets for donations. Last year, nineteen local charities benefitted from the thousands of pounds raised. Charities will be invited to apply for a donation following the event.
During the parade the following roads will be closed at 1.30pm: Victoria Avenue, Victoria Quay, Smithfield Road, Castle Gates, Castle Street, St Mary’s Street, Dogpole, High Street, Shoplatch, Bellstone, Barker Street, Bridge Street, Roushill and Raven Meadows.
There will be no access over the Welsh Bridge into town and traffic will be stopped at the sorting office in Castle Foregate. The only traffic allowed past the closure at the English Bridge gyratory will be for access to businesses in Wyle Cop or to travel to properties along town walls.
The roads will re-open as soon as the parade has reached the Quarry park and all of the road safety checks have been completed.
