Carnival and Show to hold spring concert
Shrewsbury Carnival and Show is gearing up for another
busy year raising money for local charities and organisations.
Starting off this year’s fund raising the committee
have organised a Concert to be held at St Alkmunds Church
in Shrewsbury on the 31st of March.
Shrewsbury Handbells and the Halfway House Choir will
be performing on the night, which also coincides with
St Alkmunds 1100th year celebrations. The evening is
set to be a fantastic, bringing the local community
together to listen to 2 local groups in one of Shrewsbury’s
oldest building’s.
The money raised will go towards supporting many of
the charities and local organisations Shrewsbury Carnival
helps every year. “Community is at the heart of
Shrewsbury Carnival, each year we get many requests
for donations, and it is our aim to fulfil as many of
these as possible. In the past we have helped the Maternity
Ward, Renal Unit, Dream Catchers as well as Rainbow
Nursery. Each cause is extremely important and many
groups rely on our support each year” said Julia
Wenlock.
Tickets for the concert are £10 which will include
canapés in the break, refreshments will be available
to purchase and a raffle will be held with prizes donated
from local businesses.
Entrants
wanted for 2012 Carnival Princess and Crier Competition Saturday 25th February see’s
the return of our annual search for a Carnival Princess,
her Attendees and the Junior Town Crier. After the success
of last year we will also be looking for another Carnival
Queen.
The competition will take place
at the Darwin Community Centre in Frankwell; the entrance
to the community centre is the black gates in between
the Little Boro Chip Shop and the Hairdressers. Parking
is available near the Theatre and over the Welsh bridge
next to Rowley’s Mansion.
Refreshments will be available
and we will also have a raffle to raise money for Carnival.
The competition starts at 10am,
and all entrants will need to be accompanied by a parent
or guardian.
Entrants for the Carnival Princess,
Junior Crier and Attendees must be aged between 7 and
11 years
Entrants for the Carnival Queen 12-18 years
In the email please include
the name if the person entering, their age and which
category they are entering.
Thousands
set to enjoy 2012 Shrewsbury Carnival Thousands of people are set
to line the streets of Shrewsbury for the annual Shrewsbury
Carnival parade on Saturday 16 June 2012.
The 2012 theme for the carnival is British Heroes -
The Best of British.
Themed floats, walking groups,
marching bands and dancers will take to the streets
of the town centre at 2pm on Saturday 16 June.
Shrewsbury Town Crier Martin Wood
and our soon to be chosen Carnival Crier will lead the
parade with the Mayor and Mayoress of Shrewsbury, Carnival
Queen, Carnival Princess and attendants.
The Shrewsbury Carnival will begin
at 10am with a number of activities taking place in
the Quarry Park and Morris dancing in Shrewsbury’s
Square.
Throughout the day Shrewsbury
Carnival will be raising money for local charities,
last year the carnival raised around £10,000.

From your favourite TV show to famous people.
We would love to hear from you if you are part of a
community organisation, dance troupe, marching band,
business or group of friends looking to have some fun.
You may wish to enter a float, car, walking group or
other mode of transport.
Entry
into the parade is free although we do ask that you collect
for our beneficiaries, collecting tins will be provided.
